My stepdaughter Winter and new son in law Jason are expecting their first child, our first grandchild. It’s really an exciting time. Definitely feels like a spring/summer season. I promised a few more details from her shower just the other day, so here goes. The new parents have decided to wait on knowing the sex of their first born until his or her entry to this world. I must admit, I kind of wanted to know at first, but I recently see the brilliance of this decision. Most everyone these days wants that knowledge up front and as soon as possible. I understand wanting to know. You are better able to plan. Showers will be pink or blue; decisions on nursery themes and colors are much easier knowing if it is “he” or a “she”. I get it. But you get twice the experience of carrying your first child by not knowing. Now, you aren’t only dreaming of your girl or your boy; you’re dreaming about both. You plan for having one or the other, but by doing that- you dream about your new boy OR your new girl. Twice the game. Unless you are having twins. Then, I think the game is over and you better know. But in this case, I am so pleased they made this decision.
It has heightened some creativity, which is ALWAYS good. Creative challenges keep me alive. And right now in my life, just about everything is a bit challenging, and it’s pretty fun. Danielle always has such beautiful ideas and adds so much detail in even the tiniest of spaces. These kind of things make a party come to life, blending all your senses and making the most of the event from beginning to end. She decided on a classic children’s book theme shower and designed the invitations from a favorite children’s book, Pat the Bunny. You can see her unique design here! Each guest was asked to bring one of their favorite children’s book to add to the new library. This is an amazing idea. After talking with so many people about the book they chose, each one shared a special memory with me. Each person relived a little bit of their childhood or a favorite memory of reading that book to children. I think this was a gift in itself. It was really fun trying to decide which book to bring. I came across so many books I had not thought about in years. It was such a great reflection. Kudos for that idea too!!
Here is a small sampling from the day….

This bassinet has been handed down many, many generations. Even Winter slept here. Such a wonderful legacy, and it has been cared for well.

The guest(s) of honor…
Isn’t she beautiful?

Thank you again for such beautiful memories. Dearest little one, we can’t wait to meet you….

Okay, is there such a thing as too talented? You’re flower arrangements, your sangria/culinary skills, off the hook photography and you save lives for a living! Too wonderful!
These photos are precious and so creative. Thanks for sharing the day!!!!!
These are beautiful glimpses of that special afternoon! Everything was so tied together and presented perfectly – even the flowers match the book covers! Your photos are amazing. Winter is a lovely momma-to-be, and I’m excited for you too to experience the wonder of grandchildren.
